What is WEEE?

Since the introduction of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) – the European Directive – UK Government law states that WEEE products (most products that have a plug or need a battery) should be legally diverted from landfill or incineration.

An estimated 2 million tonnes of WEEE items are discarded by households and companies in the UK each year. Companies and individuals must ensure that they comply to WEEE law by responsibly disposing of their WEEE waste or face penalties.

What constitutes WEEE Waste?

The Health and Safety Executive outlines the ten categories of WEEE outlined within the Government WEEE Regulations 2013.  These categories are:

Analysers, medical freezers, and cardiology equipment.

Smoke detectors, thermostats, and heating regulators.
